Introduction to my current life

Week 1

I didn't think in college i'd have to make so many blogs for my classes but surprisingly I do, and surprisingly I always never know what i'm quite doing. I find them interesting though as I am not one to write my thoughts down and I actually hoped this year that would change; it's New Years resolution for further context. As January is coming to an end and I have yet to do that, little did I know a class would help me get started.  I've waited literal *years* to take this class and it's finally here! My name is Ashley and I am finishing up my last semester at OU as an advertising major. I know the word advertising is "annoying" but I love the strategy behind all of it and its interesting to see how the world adapts through media and even just advertising. I hope I can take my major and do something big with it someday! When I'm not working or doing school stuff I actually kind of like to golf, cook and workout. I just started golfing so obviously I'm not good at all haha, but what I lack in golf I definitely make up in my cooking (or so I like to think)! I love trying different recipes. My favorite recipe so far is my steak and mushroom gravy one, it's delicious (or people have been lying to me). I hope after I graduate I'm able to travel a lot. Since I grew up traveling I would love to keep doing it. My favorite places are in Europe, but theres also so many I haven't seen yet and hopefully that will change soon even under these crazy circumstances. I know a lot of people became plant parents recently due to quarantining but I actually only have one plant. Since I only have one sibling my sister actually gave the plant to me. I can't wait to watch it grow over the semester. :)

  1. Hi Ashley! I never thought I would be writing blogs for class either and I never feel like I am doing it right. Yay, on it being your last semester at OU, Congratulations!! You say you love to cook do you try to try out new recipes? I have recently been trying to get the hang of cooking new things and would love a recipe recommendation!

  2. Hi Ashley!
I'm a PR major in Gaylord, so I'm definitely familiar with the not-so good reputation that is given to advertising, but it truly does fascinate me all that is accomplished through it and how it truly does shape our world. Major props to you for being a good cook – I'm honestly lacking in that area and would take any pointers you could give. I hope you have a safe and healthy last semester!

  3. Hey Ashely! I definitely relate to the trouble of getting in this class, I have been one the waitlist for four consecutive semesters! Luckily, we both were able to get in on our final semester! I have always loved to cook and have been experimenting with other styles since the Season of Rona, do you have any recommendation on something exotic to experiment with? Wishing you happy writing this semester and prayers that all finishes well!

  4. Hi, Ashley. I also enjoy being forced to write in not such an academic way every week. I should do the extra credit reflections every week to force myself to put my thoughts into words. I've never owned a plant in my life, do you recommend it? I hope to travel someday, too. With open eyes, anywhere is beautiful. Have a great semester.

  5. I always hope this can be a fun class for advertising majors, Ashley! The best advertisements tell a story... one of my favorites is the Travelers Insurance dog (no words even!), and the Pepsi Shaolin.
And I definitely agree about the ease of learning to golf as opposed to the ease of learning to cook. I'm always ready to try a recipe that has ingredients I like: how wrong can things go if the ingredients are good, right? But golf just seems hard. Miniature golf is more my style. I actually love miniature golf; it's one of my favorite summer-time things. Of course, nothing was normal about last summer, and this summer is looking pretty iffy too I guess... but still: more and more people are getting vaccinated every day (I know a lot of people who got their shots at that giant IMMY vaccination even tin Norman this week), which makes me hopeful for fun things like miniature golf and travel adventures to start up again!

  6. Hello Ashley! Hey I'm no good at golf either, so I feel ya on that one. I've never played a real game, just mini golf and a couple of trips to Top Golf! I don't find the word advertising toooo annoying! I've actually always thought it would be really cool to be a writer for the likes of Geico, Farmers, Anheuser-Busch, etc. I hope you get some job offers, and who knows maybe you'll end up with a gig that allows you to travel a little bit! Good luck on the plant-baby!

  7. Hey Ashley! First of all, yeah, advertising is kinda annoying at times but I also think it is super interesting especially with newer media platforms! I love golf too, but am also pretty bad at it. Maybe by the end of the semester we will both be shooting a little better. Best of luck this semester and good luck with advertising!

  8. Hi Ashley!
I am definitely in the same boat, I have never and never thought I would write blogs, but here we are! When I think of advertising I just hate it, but I know it is a necessary and vital part of business. I guess the thing that bothers people today is it seems like we cant do anything without an advertisement, which sucks and should be fixed! I have always had an interest in cooking, though I am not as good as one would hope. But I am practicing when I can. I hope you keep practicing golf as it can definitely help in your career oddly enough, especially in a career like advertising.

  9. Hi Ashley, nice to meet you! A lot of what you wrote in this post resonates with me—I think I have four blogs from OU now, and I'm also trying to write my thoughts down/journal more! I love to cook too, and I think mushrooms are delicious so I bet your steak and mushroom gravy is amazing. My favorite thing I cook is a tomato quiche. I love to travel too—have you ever done study abroad? It's so exciting that you're graduating this semester. I wish you the best of luck after graduation!

  10. HI Ashley,
I remember writing blog posts for intro to PR and HATING IT because the professor did not give us any tips or ideas. She just told us to write about PR and if we didn't we'd get a bad grade. I love the style of this class so much more because it is centered around creativity and something we actually LIKE! We have freedom to choose what we write about which is so nice because it doesn't matter if we are bad, we can continue to grow. As a Gaylord student I feel like I have a newfound appreciation for ad. Watching commercials I always think about the purpose and honestly enjoy them a lot more!

  11. Hey Ashley!
Blogs are super new to me as well and I never thought I'd be writing so many haha! But I'm actually having fun with it, especially just being able to write with my own little twist! Like you, I love cooking but I'm just so bad at it! I even burned white rice once! Hopefully I'll get better at that before I graduate because then what will I do. Anyways, nice meeting you and I look forward to reading your stories!

  12. Hi Ashley! I have actually never had to write a blog before until this class, so this has been an entirely different experience for me! I have actually already enjoyed it and have really opened up my creativity. I am a pre-med person so I am usually focused on books and studying and not creatively writing stories. I also love Europe and cannot wait to go back once this pandemic is over!
